Boogeyman Leader $20 Item Story
By Dr. Tom De Paoli

More Boogeyman Leader stories see my book on Amazon, Boogeyman Leadership

Boogeyman leader tactic: Drill into your employee’s head that you are the final and sole decision maker. No one is to decide anything unless you have been informed and approve of the decision. This includes even minor decisions like ordering office supplies. Become like an erratic tyrant when making decisions and give no rhyme or reason for your decisions. Just “because” will suffice as your reason. Never forget to castigate an employee who suggests an alternative decision or approach. Only delegate infantile decisions of insignificant tasks to your pet employees.
I once had a boss argue for over an hour in a budget meeting of ten people over a twenty-dollar item request in my budget. The amount of time and labor wasted was way beyond the twenty dollars for the item. She made sure everyone in the room knew that she rejected it, and did not approve of it and berated me for even asking for it. A month after the meeting I purchased the item out of my own pocket. She never did notice the twenty-dollar item in my office.
