On Time Delivery Must Be Measured Differently

The traditional way to measure this is a percentage of deliveries delivered on time.  Enhanced methods to measure this include separating components into the A-B-C categories. Strategic materials must arrive on time.  The non-strategic material deliveries should be tracked differently.  Their purpose is an ancillary supporting role.  More leeway in deliveries can usually be tolerated. Many companies break delivery performance down into these A-B-C categories with different percentage goals in each category.  One non-traditional measurement is the number of “no hitch” or perfect deliveries. This means a smooth delivery with zero redundancies and no extra non-value adding work.  Deliveries that require any type of extra process time, administrative work, or quality waiver must be tracked and examined.  Alternate approaches can easily be developed from the lessons learned from these less than perfect deliveries.
